With the Nike Cortez celebrating its 45th anniversary this year it was only a matter of time until Nike decided to do something groundbreaking to the classic silhouette. Today we see just that with the introduction of the Nike Cortez Flyknit.
Just as the name implies, the Cortez switches out the traditional nylon/leather upper and replaces it with a lightweight and breathable Flyknit material. Other details include a sock-like ankle, synthetic overlays and a new sole that looks more cushioned than the original. The two color options we see above include the OG white/red/blue pair as well as a black/white option.
Aside from that, the midsole/outsole also will get some upgrade with what looks like a lightweight Phylon with flex grooves similar to the Nike Free line. Overall, the general silhouette stays pretty close to the OG with some additional changes like the heel pull tab and of course, the material. Hopefully, fans of the silhouette will consider this as well because it is a nice way to bridge between the old and new stuff.
